Monday 27th July 2026 - Visit to Mukuni Village
This morning we all woke up at 6:30 to the sound of church bells, I loved it but Minnie not so much. Mornings are definitely not her thing, especially after 3 weeks of my singing to the sunrise. We all had breakfast, any leftovers were gladly taken in by Tim and Stan. Both of whom have been in a constant state of hunger the ENTIRE trip. We had a chilled morning with everyone playing extremely competitive hard games, chess, or listening to music. It has been so nice seeing everyone away from the constant distractions of phones, I think I have laughed more these past 3 weeks than I ever have.
The group who won the tournament then got to go out for ice cream, which sounded really delicious. We all then squished into taxis and sped off to Coach Henry's in the rural Mukuni Village. There we met his wife Tracy and very cute baby Heaven. He introduced to the traditional Zambian food they had prepared. There was okra, barbeque chicken and fish in a lovely tomato sauce. We also had two drinks baobab and malted maize drink, these were very nice. While some more wild options were caterpillars and foo-foo. Everyone sat on a long table and really felt like one big family. Back at Fawlty Towers some people bravely went into the freezing cold pool. Later, we all tucked into the delicious pizzas for dinner, which disappeared extremely fast. Miss Perks is now fed up of our antics and teasing, including Hugh Jackman impressions and Northern accents. Deep down I'm sure she still likes us (Miss Perks "not fed up, just sometimes need to find their volume button" :) ). Miss Judd has stayed very positive, even with our nonsense. It has been so lovely to see a different, relaxed side to our teachers and we really could not have lasted this trip without them. Looking back, it is so hard to choose a favourite memory but having cuddles with cute babies and seeing just how happy we make the children at the schools we have visited will always have a special place in my heart. It has been a long 3 weeks, but I have made some of the best memories of my life and hopefully someday in the future I can come back to pursue my dream of paediatric nursing. Can't wait to see you Mum and Dad!
